Bill 7 Award

I am honoured to represent the Bill 7 Award as their local Queer influencer for 2025. I proudly promoted the opportunity of their scholarship (20 x $4,500) to 2SLGBTQI+ Ontarian Students.

“The Bill 7 Award Trust was established in 1987 to provide post-secondary education scholarships to 2 Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (2SLGBTQI+) students with demonstrated financial need who are pursuing a first degree, diploma or certification in any Ontario post-secondary institution.”

I reflect on the privilege I hold today, and how I can break barriers for others. I want to keep learning, unlearning, and do better for others. Grateful to take one more step through working with Bill 7! Thank you!

Happy to See Me is a podcast which highlights those who are overlooked and underestimated. It’s hosted by Erika Casupanan the first Canadian to win Survivor. In this episode, we discuss the intersections of being Queer and Filipino - the religious undertones, forgiveness, and grief.

Being queer and Filipino with Cal Campos

“In this heartfelt episode, Cal Campos chats about growing up feeling like their queerness and Filipino heritage didn't mix, and reclaiming both identities as they grew up. Cal delves into the impact of religion, family dynamics and the societal pressures that shaped their early life and queerness. This conversation covers the complex relationship with Cal's Filipino heritage, the journey to forgiving their parents, queer intersectionality and self-acceptance. International Students: First 48 Hours in Canada (2024)

I produced a documentary with the Innovation Hub at @uoft and it was really special. 🎥

Featured on CP24, CBC’s Metro Morning, and iHeart Radio.

"International Students: First 48 Hours in Canada" centers the voices of eight international students and their experiences – triumphs and tribulations alike. Global perspectives are invaluable. Diversity is the driving point to innovation, growth and inclusion. As a child of immigrants myself, it is a true privilege to learn from the students who vulnerably shared their stories.

I am so honoured to have produced, directed, filmed and edited this documentary alongside the amazing AMAZING iHub Team. Words cannot describe my gratitude in meeting each and every person on this project. I am a better creative person because of them. I am proud to have stood up in front of VPs at UofT and own being a Trans, Non-binary, Queer, POC/PGM Media Producer.

💡 Student-driven and centered, the Innovation Hub at UofT focuses on student experiences and uses design research to find solutions for the betterment of the folks facing said challenges.

3 things I wish I knew when I was in the closet.

Thank you so much to CBC for having me on a 2nd project talking about my marginalized experience.

CW: homophobia, Cal Coming Out lore, self-hate

I’ve been speaking openly about my Queer experience online since I was 15 years old.
I grew up in a fairly religious, conservative community where my household, school system, and my church made it very easy for me to hate myself. With my mental health shot and being worried I couldn’t keep myself safe anymore, I came out in hostile environments at 13 years old.

This is what I wish I knew when I was lost and scared. If you find yourself in a similar place, I hope it gives some light.
Please remember that there is a HUGE community cheering you on, myself included. 🖤🌈

Bonus lore!

The first time I worked with CBC was back in May 2019 on Metro Morning with Matt Galloway. You can listen to the audio recording here:

UrBasics

In the past year, I’ve had the privilege and pleasure of working alongside the Trans Co-owned business, UrBasics as a contract media producer and brand ambassador. I’m so grateful for the work they’ve been doing: UrBasics centers community voices in listening, sharing, and giving back. 🏳️‍⚧️⚧️

They have so many resources when it comes to learning and finding the right gender-affirming gear! Check their work out here.

The Get REAL Movement

In November 2021, I started my journey of professionally public speaking with The Get REAL Movement, a non-profit organization dedicated to combatting 2SLGBTQ+ discrimnation, racism, and bullying in schools and workplaces. I am currently one of their Team Lead Speakers, and we have spoken to nearly two million students in Canada. 🙌🏽🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈✊🏽

I’ve been sharing my Queer experience openly online since I was 15 years old (so over a decade now). Advocacy has been a life pillar as I grew up in harmful environments that gave me no choice except to (metaphorically) fight. It was helpful for other people online to hear my story, and so I kept on sharing it. Fast forward to today.

Education, compassion, and grace have shone through in creating braver spaces. I am proud to travel across Canada meeting absolutely brilliant kids and adults alike. We all benefit from being kinder, open, and inclusive.

Additional to public speaking all throughout the school year, I have presented my own 15-minute keynote at the annual “Steps of Pride” event.

CLGCC x UpHouse

20th Anniversary Gala of the CGLCC: The Present Day of the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community

I am so grateful to have been able to speak with the Canada's 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) while on set with UpHouse.

Originally, I was on set solely as a camera operator. Upon further conversation with UpHouse’s co-owner, Alex Varricchio, we found that maybe there was space for me to join in the conversation. Thank you so much to Alex, everyone on set, and CGLCC for being so supportive and giving me space to share as a Queer, Trans, Non-binary Filipinx. 🖤
